Freezer#
Keep meals frozen at around -18°C until needed, ideally in a dedicated part of the freezer away from human food, to avoid any risk of cross-contamination.
Most raw meals keep well for several months in the freezer, though it's worth checking any use-by guidance on the packaging and using older stock first.
Thawing#
Move tomorrow's portion into the fridge tonight and let it thaw slowly and safely overnight. Don't thaw on the counter, in warm water or in the microwave, all of which can let bacteria multiply or partly cook the meal unevenly.
Keep thawing meals on a plate or in a container on the lowest fridge shelf, away from other food, in case of any drips.
After thawing#
Use within 48 hours of thawing and keep it covered in the fridge until serving. Don't refreeze meat that has already been thawed, as this increases the risk of bacterial growth.
At serving time, remove only what your dog will eat in one sitting and return the rest to the fridge promptly rather than leaving it out.
