Is salmon good for dogs?#
Yes, in the right amount. Salmon is one of the best natural sources of omega-3 fatty acids, particularly EPA and DHA, which support healthy skin, a glossy coat and joint comfort.
It's also a good source of protein and vitamin D, and many dogs find it highly palatable, which can help with fussy eaters.
How we use it#
We include salmon in some of our raw meals and supplements, and it's a protein we often suggest for dogs with dry skin, a dull coat, or early signs of joint stiffness.
Any fish we use is properly sourced and prepared to reduce the risks associated with feeding raw fish.
Signs it's working#
Over several weeks, you may notice a shinier coat, less flaking or scratching, and easier movement in dogs with mild joint stiffness. Coat and joint changes take time, so give it a few weeks before judging the effect.
Anything to watch?#
Salmon should always be properly prepared, as raw salmon from certain waters can carry parasites that are harmful to dogs. Never feed cooked fish bones, and introduce salmon gradually to check for any sensitivity.
If your dog has a fish allergy or a condition affecting fat digestion, speak to your vet before adding salmon or fish oil to their diet.
