Are probiotics good for dogs?#
Yes, for many dogs. Probiotics are live, beneficial bacteria that help maintain a healthy balance in the gut, supporting normal digestion and, in some dogs, a more resilient immune response.
They can be particularly useful during times of dietary change, after a course of antibiotics, or for dogs prone to an unsettled stomach.
How we use it#
We include probiotics in some of our supplements and select recipes, aimed at supporting dogs with sensitive digestion or those transitioning to a new diet.
As with any supplement, consistency matters more than a single dose, so we recommend feeding them as part of a regular routine rather than occasionally.
Anything to watch?#
Introduce probiotics gradually, as a sudden change can occasionally cause mild, temporary digestive upset of its own. They support gut health but aren't a treatment for ongoing vomiting, diarrhoea or other symptoms that need investigating.
If your dog has persistent digestive issues, see your vet rather than relying on probiotics alone.
How Organic Dog Chef can help#
If your dog's stomach is often unsettled, ask our team about our probiotic supplements and which recipes might suit a sensitive gut.
