01

What does an English Bulldog need?

English Bulldogs need portions that match a medium frame and low energy level, with particular attention to skin fold irritation and weight gain.

02

How much should they eat?

As a starting point, adult medium dogs usually eat about 2.5–3% of their ideal body weight per day, split across two meals.

03

Which ingredients suit them?

Look for complete, balanced food with transparent ingredients and a protein your dog digests comfortably, rather than choosing on marketing language alone.

What does an English Bulldog need?#

The English Bulldog's stocky, low-energy build means weight creeps on easily, which puts extra pressure on joints and breathing that are already working harder than most breeds'. Their skin folds also need attention, since trapped moisture and diet-related skin issues can go hand in hand.

How much should they eat?#

As a starting point, adult medium dogs usually eat about 2.5–3% of their ideal body weight per day, split across two meals. This is only a starting point — always adjust by body condition, age and activity rather than sticking rigidly to a number.

Because individual metabolism varies, watch the dog in front of you: feel for the ribs, look for a defined waist and adjust measured food slowly if condition begins to drift.

03

Which ingredients suit them?#

Look for complete, balanced food with transparent ingredients and a protein your dog digests comfortably, rather than choosing on marketing language alone.

Keep portions carefully measured, since this breed doesn't burn calories quickly, and favour a nutrient-dense but not calorie-heavy recipe. A named, easily digestible protein with minimal fillers supports both skin and digestion.

04

Signs it's working#

Look for steady body weight with a visible waist, clean and dry skin folds, and enough comfortable energy for short walks and play.

A simple weekly check of weight, waist, stools, appetite and comfort is more dependable than memory. It also gives your vet useful context if concerns continue.

05

When to call your vet#

If skin folds look red, sore or smelly, or your dog is gaining weight despite a stable diet, book a vet visit — both are common but manageable issues in this breed.

Every dog has an individual medical history. Keep your vet involved when symptoms persist, medication is involved or a therapeutic diet has been prescribed.
